Menasha Rotary in the News
| 2011 President's Dinner - Monday, August 29, 2011
On Thursday, June 30th, Menasha Rotary held it's annual "Changing of the Guard" ceremony. The evening was held at Germania Hall in Menasha and attended by 33 members and guests. Outgoing President Dan Rippl, brought the meeting to order and the invocation was offered by Peter Pfundter. Members and guests were treated to a terrific dinner of Chicken, Tips and Fish and all the trimmings, followed by cake. Marcia Erdman was responsible for the arrangements and did an excellent job. After dinner, Aaron Zemlock awarded our annual "Citizen of Distinction" Award to Sue Wisneski, for her many years of dedicated service to the City of Menasha serving in a variety of different capacities on countless committees and her years of service in the Menasha Police department. After the presentation, President Dan Rippl gave a year in review speech. Last year he laid out an aggressive plan for the Club and was happy to report that most every item was accomplished. The item he was most proud of was securing enough donations to purchase and donate a Shelter Box for those in need, the cost was $1,000.
Then, in a ceremony, President Dan said it was his "highest honor" to pin Aaron Zemlock as the 2011 - 2012 Menasha Rotary President. Aaron and Peter presented Dan with a plaque of appreciation for his efforts to the Club over the past Rotary year. After that, Aaron presented his exciting vision for his Rotary year. The skills and personality that Aaron brings to the position will truly be beneficial to our Club. We look forward with great anticipation to his Rotary Presidency. The meeting adjourned with Aaron ringing the bell for the first of many times.
Again, special thanks to Marcia Erdman for making all the arrangements and table decorations. |

| Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin - Kris Teofilo - Regional Director - Thursday, January 13, 2011Menasha Rotary invited Kris Teofilo from Make-A-Wish to present a short program. Sometimes the best way to talk with our audience is by either painting a picture or sharing a story. Kris shared stories with us and a short DVD. In December 2010 Make-A-Wish reached 4000 wishes granted. We were amazed by Bradley who wished he could be a firefighter - his wish was granted he became an honorary firefighter - along with the wish was a trip to the Empire State building and fantastic play on Broadway of the Lion King. So many stories - Charlie of Darboy, WI - most of us have heard of Charlie with a skin disorder undergoing treatment. His wish was to go to Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida. Charlie's wish was granted in 2010. Please have a look at www.wisconsin.wish.org We at Menasha Rotary Club welled up as the intrinsic rewards are shared when we serve others especially children. Menasha Rotary Club thanks Kris and Make-A-Wish Foundation of WI for sharing with us. |
| Hearing Loop - Juliette P.M. Sterkens, AuD - Fox Valley Hearing Center - Sunday, January 09, 2011December 1, 2010, Juliette Sterkens from Fox Valley Hearing Center, Inc presented a fantastic program including the advantages of T-Coil (Telecoil) technology. A short explaination is a T-Coil is a small coil built in to many hearing aids and cochlear implants. Once used to boost magnetic signals from telephone handsets - now the technology in a hearing loop-equipped venue to hear sound from a PA system broadcast to the hearing aid. In places where a hearing loop is in operation and the T-coil setting is selected by the hearing aid user the signal fromthe microphone or public address system is received wirelessly in the T-coil by magnetic induction. Technology is similar to that of Wi-Fi for hearing aids, with sound relayed directly into the ear with the appropriate amplification and without the background noise. To learn more about hearing loop technology- access the below website: www.hearingloop.org Also access the below website to find locations in Wisconsin that have hearing loops - also to find an installer near you: www.loopwisconsin.com We at Menasha Rotary club thank Juliette for her presentation and education as we know that many of us will be able to use this technology in the future as we are surrounded by sound and information on a daily basis that may affect our hearing. |

Today Perry enligtened the Menasha Rotary Club with an informative and entertaining discussion dealing with internet security. Perry states that "The best defense from dangers on the internet is understanding!" Understanding what is your question - for the average computer user it is more important than ever to understand: Spyware, Malware, Social Media, Instant Messaging, Cyber Bullying and Viruses. This is where family internet protection begins - the internet is a source of information - a powerful tool for teaching, learning, and sharing ideas - Perry states, " it's also a place where bad people prey on good people and children." We at Menasha Rotary Club Thank Perry for his time - sharing of lunch - to teach us a few details of internet surfing that we sometimes we are unaware of the preditore factors. |
| Menasha Rotary Club Gets a New Web Site! - Wednesday, October 13, 2010Members of the Menasha Rotary Club in Menasha, Wisconsin, are the proud owners of a new, beautiful club website. Says club President, Dan Rippl, "We've been looking for something like this for several years." The site, just the latest in a collection of club and association sites offered by Bread Street, LLC, of Neenah, Wisconsin, provides an excellent platform for members to rally around. "It tracks our club events, member profiles, stores key documents, provides intra-club communication tools and provides reporting capabilities for the Club Secretary. It also gives locals and potential members some up-to-date information about who we are and how we focus our energies," says President Elect Bruce Kallin. "We're really happy to have this site." |
